Frenzy to prohibit the use of Shari ‘ ah Islam in the judicial process in a number of countries the United States has now reached Michigan, triggered a storm of criticism from officials and leaders of different beliefs.
The BILL and other legislation bentun like it across the u.s. can limit for Muslims, Catholics and Jews “certain rights and promoting bigotry and xenophobic,” says Rashida Tlaib, the only Muslim Member of PARLIAMENT of the State of Michigan from the Republican party, as reported in the Detroit Free Press.
Previously, members of the House of the State of the Republican party as well, Dave Agema, has proposed a BILL to ban Sharia in the State of Michigan.
On the basis of the draft statute, Shari ‘ ah will not be recognized in the courts of Michigan, thus leaving Michigan State became the latest US to consider a ban on Islamic law.
Similar to the design in other countries, the Bill does not mention Sharia Michigan specifically, but was introduced to prevent the use of Islamic law.
This Bill was sponsored by 41 members of Parliament and other State and has been referred to the Judiciary Committee.
Lawmakers in at least 13 States have introduced a proposal prohibiting local judges to use the Islamic considerations in the decision about the issues of divorce and marital strife.
Last November, the federal court to block a constitutional amendment that would ban the use of the Sharia in Oklahoma.
In Islam, Sharia governs all issues in the lives of Muslims, of the daily worship, fasting, marriage, inheritance and financial disputes.
The verdict of Islam, however, does not apply to non-Muslims, even if it is in dispute with non-Muslims.
Xenophobic
The new BILL has provoked a storm of criticism from Muslim leaders and civil rights supporters in Michigan.
“Fear of the leaders of Sharia has made Michigan became the focal point of the campaign Muslims are well coordinated,” Dawud Walid, head of the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
Muslim leaders asked residents of Michigan to contact their State legislators to oppose the BILL.
If this Bill is passed, “would be overturned in the courts as unconstitutional,” says Walid.
But “we want this Bill to stop on the track first.”
Earlier this year, Muslim leaders asked legislators in Michigan to not pass such a BILL, said Walid.
Muslims complain that the BILL’S anti-Sharia is a direct attack on their religious beliefs and lifestyle.
Victor Begg, a prominent Republican and founder of the Michigan Council of Islamic organizations, called the Bill “terrible.”
Since 9/11, U.S. Muslims are estimated at six to seven million, has become sensitive to the annihilation of their civil rights.
There are 800 incidents of violence, threats and vandalism against Muslim since 2001. Estimates showed that 14 percent of religious discrimination against Muslims were reported.
